Mark and family, I am so sorry to hear of Maida's passing. She has been on my mind alot for a while. I remember going to Smithdeal Massey Business College with her and coming to White Stone VA to visit with both of you. She had a heart of gold and she will be dearly missed. I hope that the memories that you have of her will always put a smile on your face and light up your eyes.

It was in May of 2011 that I received a phone call from Maida and she was so excited about an inspirational idea that she firmly believed God had sent to her (He had). It was an idea to help local families with "extra items" that the food bank was not able to provide, and so Extra Helping Hands was born. I remember she wondered if there would be enough donations to get this program started and keep it going. Most of our community knows the "rest of the story."

She was a good friend, a good neighbor and I aspire to be more like her.

As I sit here feeling shock and deep sadness knowing that we lost an Angel here on Earth, I struggle to find an appropriate tribute. How can one use something so intangible as words to describe the very soul and essence of someone they loved? How do we soften the pain for her family and their loss? I find comfort in knowing that God must have needed someone to take charge of a heavenly task. While we cannot understand why he took her so young, we can remember his words.

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." Proverbs 3:5

May God give Mark, Catherine, Bryant, Margaret and all of Maida's family the strength they will need to endure.

We didn't know Maida well, but had the pleasure of meeting her on two occasions, the first at Bryant's wedding. She was so proud of her family. Bryant - knowing the fine man that you became, I know that your mother must have been an extraordinary woman. We are so very sorry for your loss.

I am still having great difficulty believing this is really true. She will be missed by so many and so very many loved her to say the least. I certainly did.
